Director Paul van den Berg remembers 1981 as a breakthrough year as well. 'The Aztec is what really put Montis on the map as a manufacturer of contemporary design furniture. It set us apart in the industry.' Thanks to the identical height and width of its back and armrests, the sturdy sofa proved to be a striking newcomer in the Dutch furniture landscape.
